PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI APPIONTS NEW SERVICE CHIEFS.

Finally, President Muhammadu Buhari has accepted immediate resignation of his service chiefs and their retirements from service and immediately appointed new Service Chiefs.

This is contained in a statement on Tuesday 26th of January by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity Mr Femi Adesina.

Those involved are

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin;

Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai;

Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas;

And Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar.

According to President Buhari, “I thanked the outgoing Service Chiefs for their overwhelming achievements in our efforts at bringing enduring peace to our dear country,” wishing them well in their future endeavours.

The new service chiefs are

Major-General Leo Irabor as Chief of Defence Staff;

Major-General I. Attahiru as Chief of Army Staff;

Rear Admiral A.Z Gambo as Chief of Naval Staff;

and Air-Vice Marshal I.O Amao as Chief of Air Staff.

The move by the President comes after several demands by Nigerians that he should replace the service chiefs, military apparatus to effectively combat increasing security challenges confronting the nation in recent times.

The President congratulates the new Service Chiefs, and urges them to be loyal and dedicated in the discharge of their responsibilities.
