Former Chief of General Staff, Rtd Lt.-Gen. Oladipo Diya will be buried on July 29, his media aide, Olawale Adekoya, said.
Mr Adekoya said the funeral rites would commence on July 26 with a night of tribute, while a service of songs and Christian Wake would hold on July 27 and July 28, respectively.
“The final burial rites will hold on July 29 with the church service, interment, reception, and final laying to rest, while the thanksgiving service will hold on July 30.“Further details will be made available in due course,” Mr Adekoya said.
Meanwhile, a family member who spoke anonymously said the funeral rites would be held in Mr Diya’s country home, Odogbolu, Ogun.

FG Declares April 7, 10 Public Holidays For Easter
The Federal Government has declared Friday, April 7 and Monday, April 10 as public holidays for the 2023 Easter celebration.
This is contained in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja, by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr. Shuaib Belford.
Belgore, in the statement, said that the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, made the declaration on behalf of the federal government.
The Minister urged Christian faithful to emulate the virtues of sacrifice, togetherness, forgiveness, Kindness love peace and patience which were attributes and practices of Jesus Christ, as exemplified by His ministry on the earth.
He also called on Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for an end to the security challenges in some parts of the country, adding that security was everybody’s business.
He also enjoined them to love their neighbours through acts of kindness and generosity of spirit, with the well to do sharing their substance with the less privileged around them.
He urged Nigerians and foreigners resident in the country to display high sense of citizenship and public spiritedness by supporting the efforts of the security agencies.
This, the minister said was with a view to ensure peace and security of lives and property of Nigerians.
He said that the federal government was doing all that was necessary in ensuring a peaceful transition of government following the peaceful conduct of the 2023 general elections.
“The nation is persistently on the part to greatness and I urge all Nigerians to positively deploy their creative energy to the full realisation of the coming prosperity, as there is surely light at the end of the tunnel,” he said.
The minister wished all Christian faithful a most blissful celebration and all Nigerians a happy holiday.
Fuel subsidy removal: World Bank gives FG $800m for palliatives
The World Bank has granted the Nigerian government $800 million to put up a comprehensive palliative scheme for its citizens, before the removal of fuel subsidy by June 2023.
The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, revealed this on Wednesday, shortly after the Federal Executive Council ( FEC) meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to Ahmed, the Nigerian government has resolved to end fuel subsidy by June, and, hence, has begun moves to make the impact less stressful for the citizens.
She noted that already there has been meaningful engagement with the newly established Presidential Transition Council (PTC) and the incoming administration, with a view to driving the palliative programme.
“We have secured a modest sum of $800 million from the World Bank to drive the palliatives and we are targeting about 10 million households or 50 million vulnerable Nigerians in the first instance,” the minister stated while briefing State House correspondents.
She noted that a good chunk of the fund will go to the 10 million households considered to be most vulnerable, to cushion the effect of the subsidy removal.
“We are currently engaging all the stakeholders. We know that various plans are being considered, including the need for buses by the Labour, amongst several other palliative schemes,” she noted.
IGP Baba paid a historic courtesy visit to the newly sworn-in PSC Chairman, Arase Pledges Commitment to Better Working Relationship.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, has assured newly sworn-in Chairman of the Police Service Commission, IGP Solomon E. Arase, (Rtd.), of the NPF’s full cooperation to achieve an enviable policing system.
The IGP gave the assurance on Monday 3rd April 2023 when he paid a historic courtesy visit to the newly sworn-in Chairman of the Police Service Commission, IGP Solomon E. Arase, (Rtd.), at his office, Federal Secretariat Complex, Central Business District, Abuja.
CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi in a statement said the IGP, who led his management team, congratulated the PSC Chair on his appointment and subsequent swearing-in.
The meeting which was at the instance of the IGP was geared at cementing the existing relationship between the NPF and the Commission for an improved working relationship.
The PSC Chair while appreciating the IGP and the Force leadership for the thoughtful visit, assured that all necessary support will be deployed to ensure the Force is repositioned for better service delivery.
He similarly expressed optimism in the quest to build stronger ties, work out more areas of collaboration, and improve discipline within the ranks of the Force.
The Inspector-General of Police reiterated the commitment to engage with the PSC to strengthen the disciplinary mechanism of the Force and stimulate continuous Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC) meetings more frequently to dispense with matters of discipline amongst senior officers of the Force. The IGP and the PSC Chair similarly visited the site of the new PSC office complex to ascertain the level of work towards its completion.
