As IGP Urges Officers To Intensify Fight Against Violent Crimes

The Nigeria Police Force has made significant strides in combating crime through proactive strategies, achieving notable successes in various operations. These include neutralizing notorious bandits, recovering firearms and stolen vehicles, and apprehending suspects involved in kidnapping, cultism, and armed robbery.

According to ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Spokesperson, the Benue State Police Command showcased its proactive capabilities in a recent operation against banditry. On May 3, 2025, police operatives, acting on credible intelligence, clashed with suspected bandits from Shitele and Ukum who were secretly meeting in Sankera to plan attacks on security personnel.

A fierce gun battle near Tse-Gondo axis resulted in three bandits being fatally wounded. They were later pronounced dead at the hospital. Police operatives recovered several items from the scene, including two crude guns and live cartridges.

Similarly, operatives of the Delta State Commands CP Special Assignment team arrested one Henry Okpor, a serial car snatcher, on 22nd April, 2025. A pump-action gun, a Toyota Highlander (Reg. No. RBC-414-BL), and a Hyundai car (Reg. No. LSD-367-DU), believed to be stolen, were recovered from him.

In a significant move against cultism, the Delta State police command’s CP Special Assignment team apprehended Mudiaga Okparume and Arinze Humble, confirmed members of the Vikings confraternity, on April 25, 2025. Two Beretta pistols and five live ammunition rounds were recovered during the operation.

In a swift response to a kidnapping incident on April 26, 2025, in Agbarho, Delta State police operatives tracked the suspects to Uvwiama forest in Ughelli North LGA and successfully rescued the two victims during an intense operation.

Nine suspects were also apprehended, and a cache of weapons was recovered, including three pump-action guns, three double/single-barrel guns, one locally made gun, and thirteen rounds of live cartridges.

These successful operations demonstrate the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to combating violent crime through dedication and proactive measures. The Force remains resolute in ensuring citizens’ safety and security via intelligence-led policing, community engagement, and swift response to crime reports. Upon completing investigations, all suspects will face prosecution.”

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, lauded the operatives for their efforts and assured the public that the Force will exhaust all means to ensure the safety and security of citizens and residents nationwide.
