He has been sworn into office as President, Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kayode Ariwoola, administered the oath of office on Tinubu at exactly 10:37am.

He mounted the podium alongside his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu; former President Muhammadu Buhari and his wife, Aisha Buhari stood behind Tinubu as he took oath of office.

Earlier, Kashim Shettima took the oath as Vice-President as exactly 10:28am.

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress polled a total of 8,794,726 votes to defeat his closest rival of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, who polled a total of 6,984,520 votes in the election while Peter Obi of the Labour Party came third in the election with a total of 6,101,533 votes and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the NNPP came fourth with 1,496,687 votes.

Tinubu started out as a technocrat; a seasoned accountant. During his sojourn abroad, he worked for American companies Arthur Andersen, Deloitte, Haskins & Sells and GTE Services Corporation.

And upon his return to Nigeria in 1983, he joined Mobil Oil as an auditor, rising through the ranks to become an executive of the company.

He began to make inroads into the political Hall of Fame in 1992 when he was elected senator representing Lagos West Senatorial District in the short-lived third National Assembly.

He later joined forces with the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), a coalition of democrats demanding the military government led by General Sani Abacha to step down for the acclaimed winner of the 12 June 1993 election, the late Chief MKO Abiola.

After four years in exile, Tinubu returned to the country in 1998 to contest the governorship election in Lagos – his home state – as Nigeria prepared for a transition to democratic rule.

A two-term governor, Tinubu prides himself as the brain behind the transformation of Lagos from the doldrums to one of the largest economies in Africa. And so do many of his allies who vigorously campaigned for his presidency based on this accomplishment.

I’ll Probe N241bn Debt, Abba Gida-Gida Fires First Shot At Ganduje.

The incoming governor of Kano state, Abba Kabir Yusuf (popularly known as Abba Gida Gida), has vowed to probe the N241billion inherited from the administration of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. Yusuf said the handover notes submitted by Ganduje through the outgoing Secretary to the State Government was not enough and very scanty.

He also criticised Ganduje for “departing from established democratic” practice in jetting out of the state and not personally handing over the state government to him. “The handover notes not enough for us. It is a very scanty note. The transition committee report was also very scanty.

“Nothing we can do as representatives of the state, we can’t refuse to collect what was given to us. We will look at it. Where we are satisfied, we will take action. Where we are also not satisfied, we will also take action accordingly.

“It is so disheartening that the government left a debt profile of over N241billion for us. Where are we going to source the money? The IGR they talk about is nothing to write home about. The money they realized through Kano Internal Revenue Service was nothing to write home about. Why the use of so many consultants? Just like rain conduit for the resources of people Kano state. We are going to look at it. I am not satisfied!

“I pray Almighty Allah reward him (Ganduje) according to what he did for the state. We are not here to steal money, we are not here to grab their lands. We are here to work and by the grace of Allah, we will achieve all we set out to achieve within the next four years.”
