The statement according to the NSCDC spokesperson, ASCI Abolurin Oluwaseun Olumide MA, fcss, Amb., mpa reads: “on We can but of ourselves do nothing. However, we can do all things through God, who strengthens us. We are gratetful to God Almighty above all, for giving our dear nation Nigeria, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC) and Centre for Innovative and Pragmatic Development Initiative(CIPDI) new names again through our visionary, erudite, sedulous, pure hearted, spirited, intellectual, indefatigable, sagacious, eloquent, diplomatic and proficient Chief Executive Officer, of CIPDI, Mr. Ifeanyi Nwanoro, in the just concluded Commission on Crimes Prevention and Criminal Justice(CCPCJ)expert discussion 2022, organised, by the United Nations office on Drugs and Crimes(UNODC),which was held from Monday, 14th to Wednesday, 16th February, 2022, at Vienna, Austria”.

More importantly, we are indebtedly grateful to our erudite scholar, Commandant General (CG), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps( NSCDC ), CG Ahmed Abubakar Audi Phd mni, who also officially, received and supported the notification of this international conference in due time. We thank him for believing and supporting young talents like ours, in the Corps, since his assumption into Office.

We also sincerely, appreciate our amiable Assistant Commandant General(ACG) Olasupo Solomon PhD, the Zonal Commander, Zone A, Lagos and a doyen of repute, who has also been supportive since the conference commenced.

More so, we sincerely, once again thank our astute, amiable, punctilious and indefatigable Commandant Eweka Douglas Okoro MSC ACMA CNA, who believes much in the grace of God upon our lives and this has also culminated in the international success and active representation of the nation and the Corps at the UNODC; CCPCJ expert discussion 2022.

We also want to seize this opportunity to thank the NSCDC, Director of Public Relations, Nationa, Headquarters, Abuja, Deputy Commandant of Corps(DCC) Olusola Odumosu, who has been flying the flag of the Corps so high, through his second to none public relations skills, for being there for us at all times, he added.

Emphatically speaking, the expert discussions were scheduled as follows:

14th February, 2022 : Preventing crimes that affect the environment.

15th February, 2022 : Combating crimes that affect the environment.

16th February, 2022 : Strengthening international cooperation to address crimes that affect the environment

Having made five presentations at the international conference, in favour of Nigeria, Assistant Superintendent of Corps I(ASCI) Abolurin Oluwaseun Olumide, Public Relations Officer(PRO) NSCDC Lagos State Command, who was the only Nigerian delegate(virtual appearance), at the Commission on Crimes, Prevention and Criminal Justice(CCPCJ) expert discussion 2022, organised by the UNODC, on behalf of Nigeria, made demands for a “UN declaration treating environmental crimes as organised crimes all over the world, in a bid to produce actionable and weighty punishments against perpetrators and offenders. “He called for the European Union to share the “EU Green House Deal document,” with Nigeria and assist with replicating it in Nigeria to adequately combat environmental crimes through national and international legislation framework.

He also called for “Victim compensation policy to be developed both at the international and national level for the victims of these crimes, having noted illegal mining of precious stones, air pollution, water pollution, oil pollution, degradation of the environment and management of wastes as some of the major issues, facing us amidst others.

He also sought international cooperation and intervention, between Nigeria and the Basel Institute, in the area of asset recovery, for issues related to environmental crimes, in a bid to return the huge illegal financial loots gotten via environmental crimes to the source country, for the development of the host communities, knowing fully well that lack of general guiding laws, remains one of the impediment of environmental crimes amidst many others.

Further more, we are also grateful to the UNODC and the CCPCJ, for giving Nigeria this great opportunity to present our case, cipdians all over the world, all our friends and well wishers, officers and men who linked up to the expert discussion via the internet for the three days, to actively partake in the conference.
